MGWR P Class-post 1913 Black Livery

Built by the Midland Great Western Railway at their works at Broadstone in 1880 and 1890. They were built with the sole purpose of shunting and banking in Dublin, primarly shunting for North Walls Goods Yard and Liffey Junction. They were also used for banking goods trains out of North Wall towards Liffey Junction while also sometimes assisted banking out of Broadstone. The E and P Classes were the only tank engines built after 1880 and the P Class were known as the Heavy Tanks due to their shunting and banking capability. During the Irish Civil War, No. 102 was rebuilt with armoured plating in 1922 and was given the name Tutankamen. The armour plating and name was removed after the war. The P Class stayed within North Wall, Liffey Junction and Broadstone their entire lives.
