SW7-1500 Erie Northern #

Our Erie Northern 1500hp SW7 is a bit unusual. It's upgrade to an existing unit, where we swapped the original 1200hp 567CID engine with a 1500hp 645CID version we pulled from a SW1500 that was being scrapped. We got the idea from our sister road, Midwest Central, who did the same thing with one of their units. It's worked out great and the crews like have the extra horses under the hood. :-)

Locomotive Information:

The SW7, intoduced in 1949 by General Motors Electro Motive Division, followed the earlier SW1 and used the then-new 12-cylinder 567 cubic-inch engine and delivered 1200 horsepower. It was well received and 549 units were produced in 13 months, with a good number going to industry. Among the largest railroad users were Burlington, C&O, Illinois Central, Pennsylvania and Union Pacific. Production ended in 1951 with the introduction of the SW9 and later units, which used upgraded 567 and then 645 cubic-inch engines. The last SW series locos were the MP15s, made from 1975 to 1984. Amazingly, even after more than 50 years, many SW7 series locos are still in use.

This loco is modified from the orignal Auran Artpack SW7 and was reskinned by majekear. Thanks to the following additional content creators: SW1500 engine spec and train effects libary by norfolksouthern37, enginesound by wulf_9, hornsound by nikos1. Thanks also to wulf_9 for the ARN library, which automatically assigned runnng numbers in the range 1101-1110.
