Coal 2 Bay Hopper Berwind #MFX

REVISED: Modified to accommodate CMTMSystem3 car destination system. 55 ton USRA/ARA 2bay hopper. 25,000 built in 1918 alone used mostly by eastern and midwestern coal carriers. Model by Dale Pattee. Most of these hoppers were built by American Car & Foundary. On May 25, 1905 the New River and Pocahontas Consolidated coal company was incorporated in New Jersey by Harry A. and John E. Berwind. Berwind-White had major coal mining properties in Pennsylvania and in 1905 they acquire title to the New River properties of the estate of Joseph Beury. They eventually had over 24,000 acres and built eight mines on the Dry Fork and Jacobs Fork Branch. Shipping the first coal from Berwind started 1906 until the end in 1960 from mines located at Berwind, Hartwell and Canebreak on the Dry Fork. Hopper has automatic Assigned Running Numbers with animated brake hoses, and MFX multi-effect with sounds.
