DONJ Mallet steam engine No 12.

In 1910 DONJ took delivery of three Mallet locomotives numbered 1, 8 no 12 respectively. The locomotives were built by the New Atlas Inc. in Stockholm.

Mallet locomotives were not common in Sweden at all. There was some 600 mm gauge locos used but the only other user of the mallet principle was DONJ.
The reason was that they needed heavy freight locomotives that also could traverse DONJ: s very narrow curves.

They then served continually up until DONJ was disbanded.

Only no 1 is scrapped so No 8 and 12 still exist and they are in their home environment, which is the JTJ preservation railway.
JTJ is what’s left of DONJ today. No 8 is undergoing renovation and no 12 is operational.

In 1912 the locomotive was upgraded with Knorr air brakes and our model shows her around 1920.

The model is equipped with STL Narrow Gauge couplings.
That means that couplings and air hoses are animated.
