Demondrille: 1963, The Yass Tramway

When the Main South was constructed through the Yass district geographical constraints meant that the township of Yass had to be bypassed. Instead planners proposed a connecting tramway line running between what became Yass Junction and the township. The mainline was completed in 1871, and the branch line in 1892. At it's historic peak Yass Town station was manned 24 hrs a day, and was quite a busy place. The trip from Yass Town to Yass Junction was made several times a day, carrying goods and passengers to meet connections with services on the Main South.

This session is set in the mid 1960's. Welcome aboard the states oldest operating steam engine 1301 and its CCA car for the short 3 mile trip from Yass Junction to Yass Town. Standing in the goods siding at Yass Town is diesel shunter X203, which has been commissioned to take over duties from the soon to be retired 1301.

This session runs as a 'lineside demo'. There are many trains active at any one time, all driven by AI drivers. At the start of the session the camera is locked on 1301, however shortly after the departure of the connecting 'Intercapital Daylight Express' the camera is unlocked. You can then swap the view to other trains running across the route, by holding down the [Ctrl] key, and pressing a numeric key from 1 to 7. You can watch them either through the lineside cameras (press '3'), or the onboard camera (press '1').

Approx run time: 3hr 30 min
