Union Pacific DD35 B Unit 84b

Manufactured for commercial sale as a doubled GP35 B unit,
the DD35 was more horsepower than most rails wanted between a single set
of couplers. Union Pacific and Southern Pacific, both companies with
a long history of buying the strongest units available both purchased
these booster units for use on their longer runs. With a heavier
underframe and higher combined total weight than two GP35, the DD35 was
a more effective tractive unit as well. Pro-rated at 4300hp on-the-rail
these units were second most powerful engines built until the mid 1990s.
