CP gondola
CP Rail 105 ton rotary-dump gondola was made for use on the run from the coal mines at Sparwood BC to Roberts Bank BC a 700-mile route with a 2,460 foot change in elevation. In 1970 they moved three million tons of coal, to do this they used unit trains of 9000 tons with eleven 3000-horspower diesels(SD40's and C630's). For loading the cars were pulled through a loader at a steady speed of about .4 to .8 miles per hour and unloaded by a rotary dumper. The cars have rotary couplers so that they do not have to be uncoupled.
More than 570 were made and were self-cleaning in unloading.
