1,193 of these 0-6-0 Diesel Electric locomotives were built in the BR works at Derby, Darlington, Doncaster, Horwich and Crewe between 1952 and 1962. Invaluable for shunting freight stock, passenger carriages and unpowered locomotives, about 250 survive in service today, including 37 higher geared Class 09s.
