BR Class 37 Intercity

Class 37

A descendant of pioneer LMS locos 10000-1, the Class 37 with it's more even distribution of weight and therefore lighter axle load, was a useful and dependable member of the BR diesel-electric fleet.

These 1750hp Co-Co locomotives have survived far longer than similar powered locomotives of the same vintage due to their versatility and reliability.

With styling loosely based on American cab-units, and loud English Electric engines; these handsome locomotives are very popular with British railfans, and are embedded into fond memories of loco-hauled passenger services. Several members of the Class were fitted with heating for passenger work, and the Class is also at home operating heavy freight services.

These popular machines were for many years among the most common sights on British Rail tracks.
