SP SW1500 cab - MSP

SP SW1500 cab.

This cab has been made specifically to be used with the SP SW1500's that I have uploaded to the DLS. The model is as close to an accurate representation of the interior of an SP SW1500 that I can make, given information I found off the web, my own recollections from over 20 years ago (when my father still worked for the SP), and an EMD Operators Manual for an SW1200-1500 that my dad gave me which shows some interior details & pictures. Let it be stated right now that I know this is not 100% accurate, but I think it is a reasonable representation, and I hope that folks will enjoy it.

Model created in Blender 2.49.
Textures created in Photoshop 5.5.

This cab is still what I consider a beta. This is the very first cab I have made for Trainz, and it has definitely been a learning process. I may have gone a bit overboard on some of the stuff I animated, and I am sure there are mistakes in the way I did some things, and my hope is that I can correct some of those in the future as I get better at content creation.

Known issues:

1)- not all of the knobs / dials / lights are functional / animated. I used the 2006 Content Creators Guide as a basis when I started creating this, but I know there are some things I just couldn't get the hang of (the .gs files for one), so there are some things which just don't function as well as they could, or are simply decorative. Hopefully I'll be able to sort out this and update the cab in the future to correct some of these issues.
2)- clipping issues. The cab sunshades will 'flip' forwards and backwards, and sometimes this will allow you to have them positioned outside of the glass window of the cab. I know that this is not realistic, but I cannot figure out how to allow it to have the full degree of motion I want for when you rotate them over the operators positions, but with some sort of 'blocking boundary' when they are trying to clip through the front window. Again, this simply may not be possible within the current confines of the game, but if it is, it will be something that I can correct in the future.
3)- Sand lever is decorative only. You can push down on the sanding lever, but it does not actually cause the sanding to function. I have dug through the CCG and tried to figure out how to make this link, but I just can't get it worked out right now. So... for now you'll still need to use the keyboard (and your imagination).

I am sure there are other issues beyond these, but for now this is where the cab is at, and I think despite the issues it is functional enough to be considered usable.

NOTE: this cab has been specifically textured for SP SW1500's. That being said, it is entirely possible to use the cab with SW1500's of other railroads, but if you use this cab out-of-the-box from the inside you'll still see the SP hood forward. The cab can be cloned, and with the swapping of two of the texture files (spsw1500_1.tga & spsw1500_2.tga) from whichever SW1500 you desire to have a cab of you can create a specific cab which shows the correct body textures from inside. I will be posting a 'how-to' on how to do this at my Weebly site in the future for those who may wish to do this.

This cab was created for use with the SW1500 models that I created, but it can also be used with the fantastic Jointed Rail SW1500's. However, it will NOT SHOW THE CORRECT BODY TEXTURES FROM THE INTERIOR! This is true, with the exception of their SP SW1500, and even then it will not show the JR textures. The JR SW1500's are payware models / textures, and therefore use of their textures is strictly forbidden. Please do not contact me with requests / questions on how to make this cab work with JR SW1500's. Any e-mails / PM's to this end will be duly ignored and deleted.

I will have repaint templates for this cab posted at my Weebly site, if you are interested in repainting this.

A big thanks to the following beta testers, without who's help this would not have come to fruition:
