NSWGR CN Composite Car

The N-Type steel passenger cars were designed as high capacity cars for use on short haul country tourist runs to places such as the Central Coast, Blue Mountains and Southern Highlands. They shared very similar dimensions to the earlier BS and FS steel cars, however they saw the departure of compartments for passengers.

They were originally organised in fixed sets of 7 cars (HFN, FN, FN, FN, BN, BN, HFN), but like all carriages in NSW, many soon saw alterations; from the ventilation system to adding buffets and sleeping car conversions.

CN 2209 was converted from a BN car to form a new 'Brisbane Express' to Wallangarra in 1967 (other cars in the set were BAM 2189, ABN 2194, FNR 2199 and an LHO van). It provided seating for 16 1st class and 32 2nd class passengers.
