NSWGR DEB Power Car

The DEB railcar or 900/950 DMU were built between 1951 and 1961 by New South Wales Government Railways and were used throughout NSW. The power cars were initially provided with two four stroke Hercules diesel engines coupled to Torcon hydraulic transmissions but were almost immediately replaced with two 250 horsepower General Motors Detroit Diesel in-line six cylinder, two stroke diesel engines coupled to Allison hydraulic transmissions. A later retrofit used higher performance Cummins diesels with Voith transmissions.

The last new sets were delivered in 1959 , and some cars were still in service as recently as 1993.
