Nevada - California - Oregon No. 14

NCNG #9 was built in 1914 as NCO #14, with distinctive boiler-mounted air tanks. She worked the line until 1928, when the SP took over, and then she went to the SPNG Keeler branch as SPNG #1. The SPNG sold her in 1933, swapping her tender out for #22's tender at that time, and she went to the NCNG as #9. Around 1940, the NCNG started the practice of having an SP-style white smokebox front, and #9 wore this scheme until 1942 when the line closed. #9 was renumbered L-17 and went to work for the Navy at Pearl Harbor, and with the end of WWII, her time there was over. There is contradicting evidence of what happened after that. Linn Westcott wrote in the Model Railroader Cyclopedia that she was sent to Africa, others say she was dumped in the sea, taken back to California and scrapped, or worked in the Pacific for some time more. Hopefully somebody will find out what happened to her, and if we're very very lucky she still exists.
