BG 2-8-0 - 1910s

Baldwin 2-8-0s built November 1906 for the Bullfrog-Goldfield Railroad. 55-inch drivers, driver wheelbase 14 feet 8 inches, total wheelbase 23 feet 5 inches. The BG was the rather unfortunate brainchild of John Brock, then president of the T&G, and despite massive funding difficulties and legal wrangling, it managed to put a railroad in just in time for the larger Las Vegas & Tonopah to complete a parallel, competing route. As such, the road never stood on its own. Built by the T&G, its engines and cars were numbered in sequence. As such, these two machines received 54 and 55, and the T&G engines arriving the following year became T&G 56-57. It was unfortunate for this tidy planning, then, that the BG was promptly realigned with the Tonopah & Tidewater, which had its own designs for the equipment. The 0-6-0s were sold, the remaining engines painted in the latest Baldwin styles and kept in pristine condition. This lasted until 1914, at which point LV&T took over, and within four years sold all of the remaining equipment. 54 and 55 were sent to the American Smelting and Refining Company, and nationalized a year later to become NdeM class G-30. They soldiered on into the 1950s, making them the longest-lasting (and most heavily rebuilt) engines from the Tonopah mining boom.
