WVRR No. 7(2)
Baldwin 2-8-0s built September 1907 for the Tonopah & Goldfield Railroad of Nevada, but delivered to the Tonopah & Tidewater Railroad of California. 55-inch drivers, driver wheelbase 14 feet 8 inches, total wheelbase 23 feet 5 inches. As originally ordered, these would have been WVRR no. 58-59; the road cut down its order amidst economic turmoil in Goldfield from 8 to 2 engines, and the WVRR accepted two more of the order as their Nos. 7 and 8. These were somewhat different to their northern sisters; they burned oil, carried the latest 6ET brakes, and wore Baldwin olive green with aluminum striping, as opposed to the WVRR's adopted standard of black. Evidently the change in brake equipment was made somewhat late, since they arrived with the tender brakes worked as part of the train line. This was changed at the shops in Ludlow, along with the retrofiture of electric headlights, improved tender running boards and ladders, steel pilots, marker lights and myriad other changes throughout the years. No. 8 pulled the last train on the road in June 1940. After the road was torn up three years later, the two engines were sold, with No. 7 becoming WVRR second 53, and No. 8 working for Kaiser Steel as an 0-8-0. Both were out of service not long after arriving at their respective new owners.
