Durango Yard (modern)

This is a depiction of the present-day Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad yard at Durango, CO. I have tried to make it reasonably accurate, but I realize it's nowhere near perfect.

This representation is flat; I made only a minimal attempt to replicate the landforms around the railroad. Most of the surrounding streets are roughed in but not detailed. If somebody wants to correct and/or further detail the route, please do so, and upload it to the DLS!

The route was drawn using Google Earth images to place tracks and structures as accurately as possible within the confines of Trainz. Some of the details are placed from firsthand knowledge, as I work for the D&S! Completely accurate structures are not readily available for Trainz (particularly the roundhouse and car shop), so some license has been taken to use things that are close. I chose not to use the Durango Roundhouse from the DLS because of issues with the lead tracks -- and it represents the original roundhouse before the 1986 fire anyway. Note the three-way switch in the South Yard, which was installed during the summer of 2021 as access for a planned diesel shop. This plan has now been abandoned in favor of a different location. I plan to upload a modified map once this alternative has been at least partially built in real life.

A separate Route Layer called 'Projections' is also included. This includes my own fantasy connections, namely a rebuilt D&RGW main to Chama (note that the westbound lanes of US 160 now occupy the original roadbed) and my idea of where a rebuilt RGS main should connect for ease of operation. Hide this layer if you want strictly prototypical operations. I also left the Google basemap I used as a source intact on a hidden layer.

The thumbnail includes a lot of rolling stock that I deleted from the map prior to uploading it. Much of the equipment operated by the D&S is available on the Trainz DLS, including the 'new' DL-535 White Pass diesels.
