NZR K class

New Zealand Railways K class. Built form original mesh by Bill fock (Billigulla).
The need for a new and larger mixed traffic loco that could cope with increasing traffic of 1930's, so the K was born. The K's were power locomotives, squashed to fit the tight NZR loading gauge of the time, resuilting in a very tightly packed loco.
The K's were on the limit for hand firing and were later converted to burn oil. The K's spent mose of the lives being thrashed up and down the North Island Main Trunk. All were withdrawn by 1967 at the end of steam on the Trunk. Three remain today, K900 and the remains of 911 & 917.
