TH&B 40 ft Box Car

One of the greatest incentives to model is to recapture a favorite scene or item from childhood. Such was the incentive to create this model. In my original childhood train set, the Mantua/Tyco HO scale "Mammouth of the Rails", the supplied TH&B 3298 Box Car was my first Box Car. When the HO car was produced, circa 1960, the prototype was fairly modern equipment. I have given it a slight orange tinge in trying to gage its prototypical color between actual photos of old rusted-out hulks and my bristling bright HO scale model, as I have little knowledge of its livery. This genre of model had the benefit of all (Zemax) metal trucks and chasis combined with a molded plastic body giving it an optimal combination of operational stability and realistic riveted texture, superior to many of today's market offerings. <Russ Grasso ([email protected]) April 2003>
