CSX-MBTA Old Colony Safety Box Car
CSX - MBTA Old Colony Safety Box Car (rev 0) - Hypothetical but plausible box car paint scheme that promotes grade-crossing safety for two railroads sharing trackage. The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority commuter rail systenm south of Boston is the "New Old Colony Line" and uses trackage belonging to freight railroad giant CSX and former shortline "Old Colony". The commuter rail came online in 1997, after upgrade/modernization of countless grade crossings with CSX (then Conrail) trackage. An ambitious publicity program was launched to promote grade crossing safety. Here we see a hypothetical instrument of that campaign consisting of a CSX freight car cooperatively painted by both roads to promote safety at their shared freight & commuter grade crossings. The trackage was originally layed by the New York, New Haven and Hartford RR prior to modern safety legislature and suburban sprawl. - Russ Grasso (deneban) April 2003
