Salville Light Railway V2

Originally constructed to serve local slate and farming interests, the line saw little use after the Salville Light Railway saw little use after 1950 when the quarry finally converted over to road haulage for their products. Much of the railroad, running at 10 miles in length to a connection with the former Great Western Railway (now the British Railway's Western Region) at Port Falbot. The end of the line at Salville mostly served the few farmers in the area that needed connections to the outside world to move their crops. In the mid 1960s, preservationists began the effort to renew the existing right of way to serve as a local tourist attraction. With two quarry hunslets at their disposal, and an abundance of Wembly Exhibition coaches, along with a replica NWNGR passenger set, the Salville Light Railway Preservation Society has begun the push to reactivate the remaining sections of the line past Downly Field.
