CR CL 73+

The CL Locomotive (AT26C) is an EMD powered engine, built by Clyde Engineering between 1970 to 1972. Featuring a 16-645E3 prime mover, rated at 3,000hp and a top speed of 130 km/h, the CL Class locomotive, was the final installation of locomotives built with the iconic EMD 'Bulldog' nose, in the world. Featuring a mansard roof, the CL differed from many other 'Bulldogs' due to its distinct difference in carbody design. The CL locomotive was originally placed in service with the Commonwealth Railways, and then later included in the transfer to Australian National Railways (ANR), later known as Australian National. All CL class locomotives were subsequently rebuilt into the CLF and CLP classes in the early 1990's for distinictions in relation to freight and passenger working, and are still utilised to this date by various private rail companies. CLP10 has since undergone restoration to return it to it's former identity of CL17.
