Conrail GP10 #7569

In 1976, Conrail inherited an enormous fleet of aging GP7's and GP9's from nearly every predecessor road. In order to extend the life of these versatile locomotives, Conrail began rebuilding them between 1976 and 1979. The results were the GP10's, which were 1,800hp locomotives rebuilt from Penn Central GP9's. These units performed a variety of local and yard duty until Conrail retired the final units in 1997, though a few lingered on in storage up until 1999.
