Locomotora diésel-eléctrica, destinada a los servicios locales de la Línea San Martin, puede ir acoplada en mando múltiple aumentando así su capacidad de arrastre.

La subserie 319.2 procede de la transformación de locomotoras de la serie 1900, mejorando su motorización e incorporando ciertas novedades tecnológicas. Algunas locomotoras incorporan ejes de ancho UIC para circular por líneas de 1.435 mm.
