Электровоз серийно выпускается Новочеркасским электровозостроительным заводом. Электровозы ЭП1 позиционируются производителем в качестве замены отечественным электровозам ВЛ60ПК и ранее импортированным из Чехословакии ЧС4 и ЧС4Т. С 2007 года изготавливается модернизированный электровоз ЭП1М, а также его вариант ЭП1П,у которго за счет изменения передаточного числа тяговых редукторов увеличена сила тяги. Он предназначен специально для эксплуатации на тяжелом профиле российского Приморья и имеет отдельную, начавшуюся с 001, нумерацию. От ЭП1 модернизированные электровозы отличаются главным образом установкой асимметричных облегченных токоприемников, пластиковой блок-кабиной с измененным рабочим местом машиниста. Кабина и пульт управления этими электровозами позволяют водить пассажирские поезда «в одно лицо», т.е одним машинистом без помощника, хотя такой вид эксплуатации признан ненадёжным и не используется.
English Translation: Electric locomotives are serially produced by Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant. EP1 electric locomotives are positioned by the manufacturer as a replacement of domestic electric locomotives VL60PK and earlier imported from Czechoslovakia ChS4 and ChS4T. From 2007 a modernized EP1M electric locomotive and its version EP1P are produced, the traction power of which is increased due to the change of the traction gearing ratio. It is specially designed for operation on the heavy section of the Russian Primorye and has a separate numbering, started with 001. The modernized electric locomotives differ from EP1 mainly by the installation of asymmetric lightweight current collectors, plastic block-cab with the changed working place of the driver. The cab and control panel of these electric locomotives allow driving passenger trains 'in one person', i.e. by one driver without an assistant, although this type of operation is recognized unreliable and is not used.

For ts2012 and T:ANE users: You will have to list dependencies and then list them in your main window. Select the assets that are on the DLS and click on 'download this version' as both versions can not download the 127th version of the asset which were removed. T:ANE users will have to list asset versions (of the <unknown asset>) and then download the most recent downloadable version of the asset by using 'download this version'.
