It won't do to have 1960s postal trucks without the correct mailboxes. I remember these from when I was a kid, there was one in every neighborhood, often more than one, and when you pushed open the mail slot, they made a loud squeaking sound, and then slammed shut and sort of bounced. It was cheap entertainment for a six year old kid.
