Pacific Intermountain Express was at one time the largest trucking company in the world, but thanks in part to de-regulation of the trucking industry, poor management, and Reagonomics, the company vanished in 1990. I remember PIE from my many travels between the NW and the midwest as a youngster. The big red trucks with PIE on the door were hard to miss when you were riding in the back seat of a car for hours and hours. They were a common carrier, and regular folks could ship stuff on their LTL trucks, so I shipped my tools via PIE when I moved to Nebraska in 1976.
