ARG XT Hopper 2000+

The XT class are the most recently built grain wagon type in the WA narrow gauge fleet. They followed the XW (1972-1981), XV (1986), XU (1987-1988) and XY (1990-91) classes. Ordered before the privatisation of Westrail in 2000, they were delivered to new owner Australian Railroad Group (ARG) between May and November 2001. A total of 76 were built, and allowed the retirement of obsolete non bottom dump wagons. They were mainly used from Avon and Albany, and were stored in late 2012 due to loss of the CBH transport task to Watco. Two were leased to Watco in April 2014, and 69 sold for scrap in June. These 69 were subsequently repurchased in August 2014. The Watco lease was completed in July 2015, and the two leased to them are now back in storage.
