Blast_Furnace_01
The first in a set of 3 blast furnaces modelled on those at Shelton Bar steelworks in the 1930s.
At the opening of a session in Driver the furnace will always be nearing the end of a firing cycle. Animations show the furnace being tapped for slag and hotmetal (molten iron) at a random point within the first 30 minutes of the session. 10 minutes after that, the recharging of the furnace with ore, coke and limestone using a skip on a gantry crane will commence.
The asset is industry interactive with inputs of coke, iron ore and limestone and outputs of hotmetal and slag.
This furnace has the capacity to produce 81 tons of hotmetal every 8 hours (allowing 6 hours of firing plus 2 hours for recharging in the 1930s). Blast furnaces were not usually operated at full capacity. The utilisation rate ( a value between 0.0 and 1.0, where 1.0 indicates operation at full capacity) for this furnace is set by a variable in the config file's string table.
While input unloading from rail wagons to hoppers is handled conventionally, the hotmetal and slag loading to free-standing ladle wagons is under custom script control to co-ordinate the load animations of the furnace and the wagon. Use 'Hot_Metal_Ladle_Wagon' kuid:84609:50201 and 'Slag_Ladle_Wagon' kuid:84609:50208 for this purpose. Once an instance of this asset is placed on a route, always add a hotmetal ladle wagon under the lower tapping chute for hotmetal and a slag ladle wagon under the higher tapping chute for slag.
To enable the successful exchange of messages between the blast furnace and the ladle wagons, a strict naming convention must be followed.
When naming the assets in Surveyor, each set of blast furnace, hotmetal wagon and slag wagon must be given names that consist of 2 parts separated by a blank space: a set ID and an asset-type.
The set ID is a unique name you give to a set. The asset-type is either 'BlastFurnace', 'HotmetalLadle', or 'SlagLadle'.
For example, if the set name is 'Shelton_BF1' and the asset type is 'BlastFurnace' , the unique name to enter is 'Shelton_BF1 BlastFurnace'.
