PLL Stoke MPD Coaling Tower
A coaling tower from which steam locomotives may load coal. There are 2 roads with above-track chutes that feed coal from the bin in the tower. The bin is replenished by a wagon lift that elevates and dumps a loaded open wagon that is positioned on a third adjacent road.
Locos that use the facility must have a coal queue defined in their own or their tender's config files.
If accurate alignment between the coaling-tower delivery chutes and a loco's coal bunker is to be achieved, the lateral offset from the coal-carrying vehicle's pivot point (main mesh origin) and the centre of its coal bunker must be specified by a 'lsp_offset_coal' tag in the vehicle's extensions container.
The process of replenishing the tower bin is handled automatically by script once a loco-coal wagon is shunted onto the wagon-lift track and uncoupled. Under script control, the train that brings a loco-coal wagon to the lift is uncoupled from the wagon on the lift and the train is then moved away. The realism of the wagon-lift animation depends on the use of wagon asset 'PLL LMS Loco Coal Wagon' <kuid:84609:50450>.
Once a train under AI control with one or more loco-coal wagons arrives at the wagon lift under a DRIVE TO command, the train will be positioned so that the leading or trailing loaded loco-coal wagon is positioned on the wagon lift. Since the loco can only move away from the wagon once it has uncoupled the wagon, there can be no wagons on the other side uncoupled wagon. Therefore the loco-coal wagon for leaving on the lift must be the first or last wagon in the train.
To process several loco-coal wagons from one train with a leading loco, the shunts would be: 1) stop the train short of the lift, 2) uncouple the first wagon from the train, 3) drive to the lift, 4) uncouple the wagon stopped on the lift, 5) move the loco forward off the lift, 6) wait for the wagon to return from unloading, 7) recouple to the wagon and propel it back to the train, 8) uncouple the second wagon, 9) drive to the wagon lift, and so on.
Note that the second and subsequent shunts to the wagon lift would contain a number of leading empty wagons. These will be automatically skipped over by the script so that the loaded wagon at the end of the train is stopped on the wagon lift.
The user would have to add track marks to the session layer in order to provide targets for the shunting movements of loco-coal trains under AI control.
