Metrovick Co Bo D5701

A 1200hp mixed traffic diesel electric locomotive built by Metropolitan-Vickers in 1958 in answer to British Railways Type 2 specification, from the modernisation program of 1955. This interesting locomotive was designed with the unusual Co-Bo axle arrangement to provide the required tractive effort and axle loading, whilst giving it a low overall weight. Twenty locomotives were built, all powered by a Crossley HSTV8 two stroke diesel engine. Modeled here as D5701, the only version of the class to have been painted in the BR Blue livery, before being scrapped in the late 1960s.
