GWR C10 push pull
The C10 Push-Pull.
The GWR ran a workman’s train service for coal miners in the South Wales Afan Valley between the towns of Cymmer, Glyncorrwg and various collieries.
These operated from the mid 1930’s until final closure in 1970. In 1950, the company converted two 50-year old Dean C10 class, 8-compartment,
clerestory coaches, numbers 1971 & 3026, for push-pull operation, by converting the end compartment of each coach into a control cab for a driver.
Together with a third Dean C19 clerestory, number 1339, these three coaches, running in C10-C19-C10 formation, operated this workman’s service from 1951 to 1959.
