CLMW F7B

Produced between February 1949 and December 1953, the Electro-Motive Division F7 is a 1,500 horsepower diesel-electric road locomotive. With over 3,800 units sold, it was the most popular of EMD's F-series. The Cleveland and Midwestern purchased a batch of these locomotives in 1950, and they quickly became the railroad's primary road power on both freight and passenger trains, displacing steam engines. These locomotives would serve as primary road power up until 1975, when new SD40-2s would arrive on the railroad. Though they would find themselves pushed to the side from primary freight road service by the SD40-2s, they would often find themselves as backup power on various trains whenever an SD40-2 was unavailable. However, the F7s would find themselves subject of a rebuild program that would swap out the 16-567B for the 12-645E, producing the same 1,500 horsepower, and giving the F7s a new lease on life that will last for years to come.
