CLMW Lightweight Lounge - 1971

Lightweight cars make up the backbone of rail passenger service in the United States. The CLMW was no stranger to this type of railroad car, and this particular type is a lounge car, suitable for both commuter and long distance trains, providing a quick and convenient food service option on board. This was done by using premade and packaged goods as an alternative to the freshly made meals of a traditional dining car. The paint scheme featured on this car is the paint CLMW was using right before the 1971 Amtrak takeover of long distance trains, however the scheme has not changed since then and as such would look at home behind the CLMW freight diesel electrics of today. The lounge cars used by the CLMW at the time were capable of seating 48 passengers, including the two removable seats to make room for wheelchairs. The car also features an extra side hatch directly into the food storage area for loading foodstuffs during service stops.
