CLMW Lightweight Sleeper - 1971

Lightweight cars make up the backbone of rail passenger service in the United States. The CLMW was no stranger to this type of railroad car, and this particular type is a sleeper car, suitable for long distance trains. To be specific, this car is an 8-3 sleeper, meaning that it has eight roomettes and three bedrooms, one of which is ADA compliant. The 8-3 design was adopted as the standard for the CLMW sleeping car lightweight fleet, doing away with the open section system found on the older heavyweight cars. The paint scheme featured on this car is the paint CLMW was using right before the 1971 Amtrak takeover of long distance trains, however the scheme has not changed since then and as such would look at home behind the CLMW freight diesel electrics of today. An 8-3 sleeper on the CLMW was capable of carrying 24 passengers in relative comfort, along with a roomette for a sleeping car attendant as well as a shower.
