CLMW Lightweight Stargazer - 1971

Lightweight cars make up the backbone of rail passenger service in the United States. The CLMW was no stranger to this type of railroad car, and this particular type is an dome car, suitable for long distance trains. The paint scheme featured on this car is the paint CLMW was using right before the 1971 Amtrak takeover of long distance trains, however the scheme has not changed since then and as such would look at home behind the CLMW freight diesel electrics of today. The CLMW's dome cars were similarly designed to Amtrak's Superliner Sightseer Lounge cars, where instead of a full dome, the cars featured wrap around windows. The CLMW designated these cars 'Stargazer Lounges', as the idea was to provide a place for passengers to relax and look at the sky during the nighttime journey of many of the CLMW trains.
