MP 46000 series boxcar

In 1926, the Missouri Pacific acquired 2,750 composite boxcars built to the Howe Truss 'Defacto Standard' design from American Car & Foundry. These cars were equipped with Murphy Radial roofs, wood doors and indented Murphy ends. Subsequent orders of identical cars were made for MP's subsidiaries International-Great Northern and Texas & Pacific. Approximately half of these cars were rebuilt as steel sheathed cars using Youngstown kits in the early 1950s. Unrebuilt examples lasted in revenue service into the 1960s while steel rebuilds lasted into the 1970s. Several steel sheathed examples exist on display in MP territory, including two examples at the Atchison (Kansas) Railroad Museum and one example at the Falls City (Nebraska) depot. However, it appears no wood sheathed examples have survived.

This model represents an unrebuilt wood-sheathed car after being upgraded with AB brakes (most likely done in the 1940s.) Dates on the stencils are appropriate for the early 1950s.
