36ng D&RG Class 40 #15 Raton Classic

Classic series: Error-free in TRS19, converted to Trainzmesh with PBR materials, but not significantly upgraded from original 2007 release. Rereleased with Creative Commons licensing.

This model is a Baldwin 8-16D decorated as Denver & Rio Grande 15 the 'Raton.' Under the line's original locomotive classification system based on overall weight, the Raton and its seven sisters were designated class 40. The class 40s were a variant of the standard Baldwin 8-18D model acquired in the mid-1870s. Although serving as mainline freight power when built, the Class 40s were quickly replaced by the Class 56 and Class 60 2-8-0s in this role by 1880. Although they remained in service as helpers and branch line power for a time, continued acquisition of 2-8-0s led all of the 2-6-0s to leave the roster by 1900. Number 15 was sold to an equipment dealer in 1891 and resold to New Mexico Lumber Company as their #2.

Since producing the original model in late 2007, many new sources on the prototype have become available. The mesh's proportions, paint scheme, and cab design have been corrected accordingly.
