NSW Illawarra & Southern Highlands Version 5.0 TS12

This route is loosely modelled on the coastal fringe of NSW Australia, around the industrial City of Wollongong and deep water harbour of Port Kembla just south of Sydney. The period represented here is some time in the early 1980s prior to the electrification of the Illawarra line.

Starting at the Portal north of Stanwell Park, the dual line makes its way south, passing minor stations to Thirroul, Wollongong & through the industrial area to Port Kembla.

The southern line branches off at Coniston to Unanderra from where the single line then wends its way through reasonably flat farmland to Dapto an eventually ending at the coastal tourist village of Kiama to the south. A small section of single standard line takes you further south towards Bomaderry ending at a portal south of Omega station.

West from Unanderra, a dual line snakes its way up the Illawarra escarpment to Dombarton, while it is single line working to Robertson on the way to Moss Vale further west. (A point to note - you could easily join here with <kuid:68830:100201> Picton 2 Goulburn created by pgibbons)

The Dombarton passing loop, while no longer in existence, was included in this route for pure gameplay interest.

The Port Kembla Steelworks is serviced by the Mt Kembla & Wongawilli private coalmines using a network of standard gauge rail line. The steelworks produces slab steel & rolled coil for local & overseas markets.

Apart from the coalmines there a some other working industries to make gameplay more interesting eg grain terminal & coal terminal and some others.

The era covered by this route accomodates mainly diesel locomotive power, with an occassional visit by a couple of tourist steam trains esp. The 3801 Ltd and a NSW 59 class led Kiama picnic train.

Created in Surveyor on TS2010EE Build 49933 & modified since using TS12 Build 61388, this route covers more than 230 baseboards.
